Category: Geeks r Us
I downloaded the latest iTunes last night, and I’ve not been able to like it at all.
Many of the things are not accessible, in that Jaws doesn’t read them, just calls them buttons.
I am running Windows 8.1 and Jaws latest 16.0.1925.
At this point, I have not tried any other Jaws versions, but I suspect I’ll have same or similar results.
If you have to, you can get by, but that will be it.
Anyone having better luck?
I’m going to keep iTunes 12.00.
I'm still on 11 whatever, the problem you will run in to is that from iOS 8.1.3 on, you will have to use 12.0.1. There is a 12.1 on the Mac, there should soon be one for Windows. Hopefully they will fix the unlabeled buttons.
Ah, so there going to make us switch anyway soon?
I guess that is the new norm for programs lately.
Microsoft, and others have started to make it hard to use older versions of programming.
On one hand this is a good thing, because it keeps more people current, creating a more secure base. On the other hand, for us, it's a bother.
I it is useable, just difficult in my opinion.
I've got what I call my working machine and I never upgrade it until I test something on my laptop.
I'll keep it installed, until I figure it out, but for anyone that has to use one computer all the time, I'd stick with the older version until I had no choice.
I sure hope they don't take our choice away.
although I don't particularly like iTunes 12, I've figured out how to make it do what I need it to, and I can't stand the constant changes Apple feels are necessary to make.
as Wayne said, those changes make it difficult for us, in many ways.
nonononononono! I will stomp my feet and flail my hands and I will not will not will not update from 11. lol Thanks for the heads up.
as a first time user eh the other day, I wouldn't call this thing fun. Its workable if you tab around enough. its querky but is d doable. the radio buttens aren't normal looking for selecting if you are gonna listen to iTunes radio or search for stuff, but it does work. One thing I haven't tried is with the touch curser in Jaws 16. sometimes that curser can read more info and you can get more access to parts of the screen. Its not impossible. What I haven't figured out yet is how to get to the apps on my phone if I want to view them. I can get to a thing that says tree view apps but past that I don't know where else to go. NVDA doesn't work any better from what I could tell. Any other NVDA users that can tel me different feel free. as I have both NVDA latest versions and Jaws latest version. I've found NVDA can work on certain things that jaws doesn't, so who knows.
I'm using NVDA and everything works fine on my 64 bit machine.
Someone posted the reason why it isn't accessible on applevis so you might want to look there, something to do with 64 bit.
If you use the control and 1 2 3, like that, you can move to sections in it.
It is just to clunky to be comfortable.
Example, if you want to just look down your list of songs, or switch it to albums, that's difficult.
Maybe you just want to buy a song.
To me, the things that were simple task, needing no scripts at all, are now to difficult.
Even what I called easy was hard for some, so this one will be impossible. Lol
I am usually liking iTunes, but not this version.
I'll take a look at the Apple Vis.
Someone elxe suggested Windows could be the problem.
Maybe I'll give NVDA a go on this, since someone here says it is working.
If you have updated and hate it, you can go back to Itunes 11.4.
It will require some work, and computing savvy, but it is not difficult.
I did the process to make sure it works on one of my computers, and it is lovely.
On the other, I’ll wait for the fix.
I did read the post on Apple Vis, so that seems good.
I also sent Apple my opinion on there website where you can send feedback on products section.
Here’s the article that explains going back.

I'd like to add. My previous post will not be for everyone.
It does work however, and well.
Listening to my music right now.
*deep sigh.
Sure, it is on my phone, but sometimes you want to just use the comp.
Okay, I am reposting this and not taking credit for it.
On AppleVis if you read near the last post on the topic
Are others experiencing accessibility problems with iTunes 12.1 on Windows?
You’ll find a fix for people that are running Jaws and have 64 bit machines. I have no idea if this works for any other screen reader.
I installed it, and it works.
You’ll need to do some relearning, but from the little time I’ve spent, it works nicely.
Now I have one computer with an old iTunes, and one with an odd iTunes. I am interested to learn how they sync over my network.
